Brad Pitt, Denzel Washington and Mickey Rourke were among the Hollywood stars who gathered at a special memorial service in Los Angeles last week (15Feb13) to pay tribute to late director Tony Scott.

What you didn't know is that Tony stopped payment on the cheque the next day

Actors James Gandolfini and Andy Garcia were also among the hundreds of mourners at the private ceremony, which was held at the Academy Theater, where producer Jerry Bruckheimer, The Dark Knight star Gary Oldman and Scott's five-time collaborator Washington delivered moving eulogies to the celebrity-packed audience.

According to the New York Post, Tom Cruise also shared his thoughts about his Top Gun director via a video message, in which he recalled one fond memory during the shoot, when Scott told crew members to turn around an aircraft carrier.

A set hand was hesitant to obey due to costs, prompting Scott to write a cheque on the spot - but Cruise revealed, "What you didn't know is that Tony stopped payment on the cheque the next day".

Scott jumped to his death from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in California last August (12).
