French actress Julie Gayet has won a $21,000 privacy lawsuit against editors at Closer magazine after they suggested she was involved in an affair with French President Francois Hollande.

Gayet sued bosses at the publication after they released a seven-page photospread, which appeared to show her and Hollande entering and exiting her apartment, while he was still dating journalist Valerie Trierweiler.

The politician chose not to sue and neither party admitted to the alleged affair, but Gayet insisted her life had been "turned upside down" because of the pictures that were published in January (14), and, on Thursday (27Mar14), a judge sided with her.

The 41 year old has also filed two criminal complaints - one for breach of privacy over separate Closer photos, which were taken while she was inside her car, which qualifies as a private space under French law.

She is also claiming the paparazzi "endangered others" when they hounded her.
