The 22-year-old singer - who is worth a reported $150 million - hates Los Angeles' Rodeo Drive because her experiences are like those of Julia Roberts' 'Pretty Woman' character, who is made to feel unwelcome in a high-end boutique.
She said: "You've seen 'Pretty Woman', obviously. Well, they are actually like that.
"If you walk in, they give you the worst look you've ever seen, and I am too outspoken to deal with those kinds of people."
The 'Wrecking Ball' hitmaker admitted she often feels judged by people but refuses to change to conform to their expectations.
She told Australia's Style magazine: "People like to judge me a lot of the time.
"I am refusing to be a certain way, or dress a certain way."
Miley - who is dating Patrick Schwarzenegger - admitted she is a "control freak" who can't bear to be in the hands of a make-up artist.
She said: "I do my own because [otherwise] you sit in a chair and then, all of a sudden, you come out and you're not you any more. That freaks me out.
"I'm a little bit of a control freak, I guess."
The former 'Hannah Montana' star admits she feels compelled to try and "fix everything" so needs to concentrate her focus to avoid disappointing people.
She said: "There's so much going on in the world, you want to try to fix everything.
"You've got to start to really focus, otherwise you're going to over-promise and under-deliver, which is the worst thing you can do."
