Piers Morgan has slammed Shia LaBeouf after he claimed he was raped.

The outspoken television personality blasted the 28-year-old in a series of tweets after Shia said he had been sexually assaulted while taking part in an art exhibition titled '#IAMSORRY', earlier this year.

Taking to the social network on Friday night (28.11.14), he wrote: "Shia LaBeouf's claim to have been 'raped' is truly pathetic & demeans real rape victims. Grow up, you silly little man."

The supposed incident took place in February when he took part in the Los Angeles exhibition which saw him sitting in silence with a paper bag on his head while strangers came and sat with him. However, the star recently recalled one particularly unpleasant experience during the five-day art installation in which he received unwelcome sexual advances.

He told a Dazed & Confused journalist: "One woman who came with her boyfriend, who was outside the door when this happened, whipped my legs for ten minutes and then stripped my clothing and proceeded to rape me."

Following his original tweet about Shia's encounter, the 49-year-old journalist was sent several messages condemning the comments, but stood by his view the 'Fury' actor had made up the allegations.

He continued: "A Hollywood actor sitting with a paper bag over his head who did nothing as he claims a woman 'raped' him has not been raped. #labeouf"

In a final tweet about the 'Nymphomaniac' star - who is currently dating actress Mia Goth - the former 'Piers Morgan Live' host branded the claims as an "utterly shameful" PR stunt.

He added: "People are actually defending Shia LaBeouf. The world's gone mad. He's invented a supposed 'rape' for cheap PR - utterly shameful."
