New Covent Garden Food Co. survey reveals the truth behind the nation’s eating habits

Hands up how many of you made a promise to follow a healthier lifestyle when the clock struck midnight this New Year’s Eve? Well if you did, it seems you’re not alone. A nationwide survey by New Covent Garden Food Co. has found that over 50% of the UK is planning to follow a healthier diet in 2008 by eating more fresh veg. What’s more 50% of the nation will be turning to bowls of soup to get their quota of fresh vegetables and improve their diet.

Despite a whopping 94% of people surveyed believing that eating fresh vegetables is the key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, just over a third said that they actually managed to include enough fresh vegetables in their diet!

And when asked to choose their favourite vegetables, it seems we are a nation of traditional tastes with 38% saying potato, closely followed by carrots (35%), mushrooms (34%) and broccoli (31%).

Coming to the aid of these would-be healthy eaters is New Covent Garden Food Co. with its January Soup of the Month, Root to Revival: Root Vegetable Medley. This revitalising soup has been designed specifically to help kick start a New Year healthy eating plan. Containing a host of tasty and nutritious root vegetables, including the nations’ favourite vegetables – potato and carrots – plus swede, parsnips and seasonal Brussels sprouts, this delicious soup is packed with Vitamin B6, Vitamin C and Vitamin A, and provides a great boost for the immune system.

Nick Munby, of New Covent Garden Food Co. commented, “One of the reasons why people find it so difficult to incorporate fresh vegetables into their diet could simply be due to our busy lifestyles. Our survey showed that a quarter of us say we don’t have time to shop for fresh vegetables and a further quarter said vegetables take too long to prepare. However, it is extremely encouraging that the nation is becoming more aware of the importance of a balanced diet and that eating fresh vegetable soup is an excellent way to maintain that without having to go to a lot of trouble or expense.

“With our January Soup of the Month, Root to Revival: Root Vegetable Medley, we have created a soup which is perfect for including in a New Year healthy eating plan – it’s low fat and nutritious as well as being absolutely delicious! And as with all of NCG’s fresh soups it contains only the best natural ingredients, making it the ultimate in guilt free convenience food!”

New Covent Garden Food Co.’s Root to Revival will be available in supermarkets and independent retailers nationwide throughout January priced £1.99.
