Two years ago, Great Britain’s hockey team won gold at the Rio Olympic Games in a thrilling final watched by nine million people, in 2017 England’s cricket team lifted the World Cup trophy on home soil in front of a capacity crowd at Lord’s and most recently, England Netball secured a historic gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

With these sports and its athletes propelled into the nation’s psyche, an inspiring collaboration between the three national governing bodies is capitalising on this opportunity, ensuring this momentum is continued. TeamUp is an ambitious campaign to get thousands of 7-13-year-old girls across the country experiencing the benefits of playing team sport.

The TeamUp initiative has been awarded over £600,000 of funding from Wembley National Stadium Trust (WNST), which will see over 450 teachers at 150 schools across London receive additional training to deliver team sports which in turn will benefit 30,000 girls aged 7-13 in the next three years.

Participating schools can access free teacher support and training, after school clubs, dedicated coaches in school, activity days, leadership programmes, talent ID, free tickets to attend major sports events. Schools also have opportunities to win incredible free prizes including tickets to international events, the chance to be mascots and flag bearers for World Championships and visits to their schools from their sporting heroines.

Kadeen Corbin, a member of the victorious England Netball squad who went to school in London, comments on the initiative: “TeamUp is a fantastic campaign that will gives all schools access to great coaching and support for their pupils.

“Along with all the physical benefits of being active, playing team sport brings so many more advantages for girls including building confidence, resilience, communication skills and leadership.

“If your school isn’t yet signed up to access all the free support available, then definitely take a moment to do it now. You can find out more at www.teamupengland.com”

TeamUp was created to maximise the legacy of England hosting three consecutive Women’s World Cups - 2017 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup; 2018 Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup and the 2019 Netball World Cup.
