Brits like nothing more than having their cake and eating it too and here’s the proof:

This sweet total of £68.75 is close to 10 times more than the average £7.11 Brits are prepared to spend on a shop-bought cake.
The findings show we are a nation of proud bakers with the average person claiming the taste and quality of their creation is worth at least £11.63 a slice. In addition, the time spent on baking is valued at almost double the UK minimum hourly wage at £9.34. At this rate, if the UK was a nation of full-time bakers we would all be earning over £27,000 annually.
Given the high value Brits give to a home-baked sweet treat, two in five (41 per cent) say they will be getting creative in the kitchen this Christmas - baking their love and yuletide cheer into a festive fancy.
Home Baking is close to Welsh hearts with a huge £80.61 price tag per cake. The bargain basement cake is one baked by those in Northern Ireland, but still coming in at a weighty £60.18.
