Tis the season to be Jolly, and what better way to get Jolly than a few glasses of hot, mulled wine?
This recipe for Mulled wine, may not be simple, but it's a good alternative to shop bought Mulled wine.
- Take:
- 2 bottles Red Wine
- 100g Brown Sugar
- 2 Lemons
- 1 Orange
- 2 tbsp Brandy (optional, for those really cold nights)
- 1 cinnamon stick
2 Bay Leaves - Pinch of Powdered Ginger
- 5 Cloves
Method
- Place the wine in a large pan, and heat gently.
- Cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice into the wine, throw the rind into the pot, arterwards.
- Cut the orange in half, and add half of the orange in the same way. Cut the other half into slices and put aside for later.
- Wrap the Cinnamon sticks, cloves and ginger in the bayleaves, and tie up with string to make a boquet garni, and throw into the pot. If you have dried bay leaves, the boquet garni can be wrapped in muslin. The ingredients can be thrown in sepparately, but it makes it harder to get them out.
- Continue to heat for an hour, not allowing the liquid to boil.
- Add the sugar, and stir until it's dissolved, then turn down the heat.
Serve
Place a teaspoon in each glass, to stop them from shattering, and remove the spices from the pot and discard. Ladle the wine into the glasses and wrap a napkin around them to stop your guests from burning their fingers.0Comments | Be the first to comment!
