Friendly Brits cheer up their mates with chocolate

A new survey has revealed that the top reason to buy a chocolate present for a friend is if they need cheering up.

Over three quarters of those polled agreed that the reason they would buy chocolate for someone is to give them a boost if they were down in the dumps. Just over 70 percent said that they buy friends chocolate to say thank you, closely followed by using it as a congratulatory gift.

The research also proved that British women love to treat their friends, with 95 percent saying that they could always find a reason to give a present. A third even agreed that they buy their mates chocolate just for fun.

The survey was carried out by chocolate maker Thorntons to launch its new ‘Today I Thought of You’ range, which provides people with 101 reasons to treat a friend to a chocolate present. From proposing a girly get-together, to congratulating someone on their graduation, there's always a reason to improve someone's day with chocolate.

The chocolate boxes contain new flavours from Thorntons, and are emblazoned with inspirational slogans such as ‘Especially for You’, ‘You’re so Fabulous’, and ‘Today I thought of You’.  The ‘Today I Thought of You’ range is available from this month, from www.thorntons.co.uk
