Will you be adding Nutella to your pancakes?

This May Nutella celebrates its 50th birthday by saying “thank you” to fans across the world. The “Nutella® – 50 Years Full of Stories” campaign puts fans at the heart of the milestone, by inviting them to share their most memorable moments involving Nutella.

But to get us in the mood we have two breakfast recipes that include the delicious treat.

Nutella Pancakes

Ingredients – Serves 2

For the pancakes

  • 110g/4oz self-raising flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 150ml/1/4 pint semi-skimmed/1% milk
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (sunflower/rapeseed)

For the filling

  • 2 bananas chopped
  • 15g (2 heaped teaspoons) Nutella

Method

Place the flour, baking powder, eggs and milk into a large bowl and whisk together to make a smooth batter. In a non-stick small frying pan heat the vegetable oil. Using a ladle, pour in a ladleful of butter (about 2 tablespoons), lifting and swirling the pan so that the batter covers the base in a thin a layer. Cook for 1-2 minutes until golden brown underneath and just set and flip over until underside is also golden-brown. Remove the pancake from the pan and set aside to keep warm. Repeat the process with the remaining batter. Spread the pancakes with Nutella and arrange the sliced banana on the top.

Tips

Use other fruits like sliced strawberries, kiwi or add raisins to the batter mix. Use ready made pancakes if you prefer.

Nutella Porridgella

Ingredients – Serves 1

  • 40g (1/2 cup) porridge oats
  • 220ml (1 cup) semi-skimmed/1% milk or water or half and half
  • 15g (2 heaped teaspoons) Nutella

Method

Hob – place oats in pan, add liquid and mix well. Bring to the boil and simmer gently for 4-5 minutes stirring occasionally. Add a 15g (2 heaped teaspoons) portion of Nutella to the middle of the porridge.

Microwave – (based on 850W as a guide only, adjust for your oven) mix oats and liquid in large microwaveable bowl and cover with suitable pierced film. Cook on full power for 2 minutes 30 seconds and stir well. Re-cover. Cook on medium power for another 2 minutes, stir again and leave to stand for 2 minutes. Add a heaped teaspoon of Nutella (1-2 teaspoons) and stir in.

Tips

You can use instant porridge if you prefer. As a rule you use double of the liquid of the porridge oats but if you like your porridge thicker or thinner you may need to adjust. Use milk if making porridge for children to provide them with calcium.
