The 28-year-old actress has taken on the iconic role as the daredevil archaeologist Lara Croft in the upcoming movie adaptation of the popular video game series, and the star has revealed she spent a total of over two weeks "fully drenched" by water when she shot the water sequences for the action film.

Speaking about her extreme filming sessions to Entertainment Weekly Online, Alicia - who is currently dating fellow actor Michael Fassbender - said: "We have a lot of water sequences.

"I spent my last two days of shooting in a tank and that was my 16th total day being fully drenched or submerged in the water."

Alicia has revealed she was thrown into the river used for Olympic rafting with her hands tied to film one scene "50 times", but she didn't have to act during the segment but simply "react" to being restricted whilst caught up in a rapid rush of waves.

The 'The Danish Girl' star explained: "For one action scene, we used the London venue for Olympic rafting. They threw me down that river -- with my hands tied -- about 50 times.

"I didn't need to act, just react."

In taking on the role of Lara - created by British gaming company Core Design in 1996 - Alicia has replaced Angelina Jolie, 42, who was widely credited for making the movie adaptation of the video game franchise a huge success when she brought the British explorer to life in 2001 and then again two years later in 'Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life', which hit the big screens in 2003.

'Tomb Raider' is slated for release in March next year.
