PS4 gamers could be about to witness the announcement of a brand new Marvel vs Capcom release at Sony PlayStation's PSX event in Anaheim, California.
The most-recent fighting game in the Marvel vs Capcom series was released back in 2011 and according to sources close to Polygon, 'Marvel vs Capcom 4' could be set for release next year.
It is rumoured that the soon-to-be-released game may feature Marvel's cinematic universe in favour of 'X-Men'.
That means the much-discussed possibility of a cross-over game could include characters from 'Guardians of the Galaxy' or 'The Avengers', rather than Wolverine and Magneto.
Marvel Game's vice-president, Jay Ong, admitted earlier this year that he is well aware of the fan interest in the series.
He previously said: "Let's just say that we hear that a lot. We love our fans and we certainly want to please them. Beyond that we can't say anything at this time. But who knows what the future holds?"
Last week, meanwhile, the PlayStation Blog confirmed that the 'Spider-Man' PS4 game is set to arrive in the near future.
Fans of the iconic superhero have been waiting for news of when the eagerly-awaited game will be released - but Sony has confirmed that they won't have to wait much longer.
Creative Director at Insomniac, Bryan Intihar, also offered fans an idea into what they can expect from the game.
He said: "From comics to films and TV, Marvel has a stellar reputation for unique characters and storytelling filled with personality and humour. Those are tenets we value deeply in our own craft.
"We love building big games, with incredible gameplay, deep stories, and beautiful graphics.
"'Spider-Man' is one of the most iconic and well-known characters in the world, and we're thrilled to be given the responsibility to create a brand-new, authentic 'Spider-Man story'."
