This is according to SuperData, which has released its revenue stats for the month and shown that digital revenue made on PC, consoles, and mobile reached $6.7 billion.

That is a 14 percent increase year-over-year increase, with $628 million of the money coming from consoles - a 27 percent year-over-year rise.

Elsewhere, $592 million of the money came from the PC market, which saw the biggest increase year-over-year at 78 percent.

And as 'Battlefield 1' was the top-grossing console game during October, and the seventh most-popular title on PC, it earned as much as $70 million in revenue on consoles alone.

In October, meanwhile, Sony announced it was launching a competitive PS4 platform.

The platform, called PlayStation Plus League, is exclusive to PS Plus subscribers - and was leaked by virtue of the official site that is launching early in France.

What's more, Sony's PS4 was also given a make-over with a range of new faceplates during the month.

The home video game console was given an injection of colour with Aqua Blue, Red, Glacier White, Silver, Gold and Neon Orange.

In a blog post, Sony explained: "Quick and easy to fit, you can customise your system in a matter of seconds. Simply remove the HDD bay cover and then slide and click your chosen faceplate over the PS4 hard disc drive.

"Whether you want your PS4 looking bold and bright or stylish and sleek, with six colours to choose from it's easy to get the look you're after."
