Electronic Arts (EA) agreed to create a special version of 'FIFA 17' for the Nintendo Switch because it admires the company's willingness to take risks.

The American gaming company recently announced its partnership with the hotly-anticipated new console, and EA executive vice president Patrick Soderlund has spoken about the attraction of working with a firm like Nintendo.

He said: "What I like about Nintendo is that they come to the table with a slightly different approach. They've done that in the past to great success, and sometimes not so much, but I think unless you're willing to think about something unconventional, it's going to be hard to break ground."

Nintendo "forces us to think differently", according to Patrick, who also explained how the Nintendo Switch being a home and partable console "challenges conventions".

What's more, he observed that the decision to partner with Nintendo would ensure that 'FIFA 17', which is one of EA's biggest title, can reach an ever bigger audience than before.

He told IGN: "It's the brand that spans across the most markets. It's the brand that spans the biggest age demographic. It's a mass market proposition. It's a game a lot of people want to play."

He did, however, remain tight-lipped about other titles being released on the Switch.

He shared: "We are not announcing anything [else] yet, but you can expect us to be there once the platform launches and takes off."
