The game, which was only announced last Friday (21.04.17) by Activision, has been subjected to a series of leaks including a French advertising poster that was put up on the side of a building ahead of schedule and spilled the release date of November 3.

The previous games in the 'Call of Duty' series such as 'Infinite Warfare' and 'Black Ops 3' were also previously released on the first Friday in November.

Meanwhile, Reddit user Jadeos, who came across some leaked Australian marketing materials, has revealed a brief outline of gameplay - a single-player campaign that is featured on the invasion of Normandy and includes more "iconic locations" across Europe including Omaha Beach. It describes the experience as creating "the bonds of camaraderie".

Detail about the multiplayer mode is still sparse. All that has been revealed so far is that it will be "grounded" and fast-paced" with players able to interact with other players in new ways and players who pre-order the game early will have access to the closed private beta sessions.

There is a "high-octane co-operative" mode, which takes place in a "new and original story" which is described as being "unexpected, adrenaline-pumping moments".

And leaked images initially posted to the official 'Call of Duty' website, and grabbed by Reddit user braderz_12 show an American soldier firing a Thompson submachinegun and another of him putting his heavy gun on his shoulder plus the squad making trudging their way across a wreckage.

Eagled-eyed fans/ historians noted that the red number one on the soldier's shoulder patch refers to the 1st Infantry Division - more commonly known as a unit of the US Army that fought in the Tunisian campaign as well as the invasion of Italy, Normandy, and the Battle of the Bulge. And the return of this division is key as it previously featured in 2005's 'Call of Duty 2: Big Red One'.

It is not yet known whether the game will come to Nintendo Switch consoles.

The worldwide livestream launch of the game will be held by Sledgehammer Games is on Wednesday (26.04.17) at 6pm BST.
