The much anticipated sequel to 'Divinity: Original Sin' - which was released for PC systems in 2014 - has finally been given the firm release date after an early access version of the game's first chapter was first made available via Steam late last year.

Game developers Larian Studios made the announcement on Wednesday (24.05.17), when they also took the time to release a new update for the early access version which introduced a new relationship system and changes to the crafting and character creation systems.

The new patch also includes two new areas for players to explore, as well as adding a whole new prologue section which acts as the game's tutorial.

In a video update, Larian Studios said: "I have good news for you, we actually decided on a release date and I'm going to share it with you today.

"September 14, okay? September 14 2017 you're going to be playing 'Divinity: Original Sin II' in all of its glory, with all the content unlocked. This is the biggest RPG we've ever made, there's so much stuff in there, I hope you're going to have a tremendous amount of fun. And I hope we're gonna make for that date because we're starting to get tired and we want to get it in your hands.

"With that said, what can you look forward to from us in the coming months? We still have a couple of announcements for you so we're going to be making those at the appropriate time. There's going to be at least one more big patch and that will probably be the last one because then we have to start collecting everything, finishing everything, so that when it comes to release date you're going to have an awesome experience.

"And with that, I think I've told you pretty much everything. Thank you for keeping on supporting us and sending us feedback, it helps in making a better game, and I hope you're going to enjoy all of the new content that is present in this patch."
