The 47-year-old video game artist's comments have sparked speculation that the remake may get a release date before the end of the year, with some fans suggesting an announcement could be made at Paris Games Week 2017, which begins on November 1st.

Speaking to Japanese magazine Famitsu, he said "important details" will be released in the near future.

It's not the first time Tetsuya has spoken out about the game in the publication as in January he admitted the title - which is being developed by Square Enix - would be featured at a number of events this year.

He said: "I didn't give much information on 'Kingdom Hearts III' or 'Final Fantasy 7 Remake' last year, but I hope I can show you our progress if any events align this year.

"I apologise that there's still some time before I can release them, but there are many other titles releasing this year, and so I'd like for you to please wait for your 'surprise'.

"There are the annual events; E3 in June, the Tokyo Game Show in September, Jump Festa in December ... this year is looking to be fully loaded."

The original 'Final Fantasy VII' dropped on the PlayStation in 1997.

This year marks 20 years since the game was released, and it is 30 years since the popular gaming series began.

'Final Fantasy VII Remake' was first announced back in 2015.
