Altrincham FC - who play in the Evo-Stik National Premier League - have taken to Twitter in search of a gamer who is a whizz at the soccer management simulator, less than a year after they banned 'Football Manager' players from applying for a job to take control of the first team for real.

They wrote on Twitter: "Remember when we said we wouldn't hire a @FootballManager Manager? Well... Interviews with the board start Monday 30th. (sic)"

An advert attached to the tweet reads: "First team manager applications invited.

"No, not a real one.

"We're after an avid Football Manager 'You Tuber' to take the hotseat this coming season.

"Reply to apply, attaching a screenshot of your greatest FM achievement (sic)"

The club have been inundated with more than 360 replies, and 'Football Manager' director Miles Jacobson was really "supportive" of the idea.

He wrote: "it was @altrinchamfc's idea, Matthew. We were unaware of it until they put out the tweet. We are supportive of it though :) (sic)"

One supporter claimed they were "perfect" for the job but didn't share footage of themselves playing the game on the video-sharing site.

They wrote: "I know I saw this. I'm sure taking plymouth from league 1 to the premier league in 3 seasons would be perfect but I'm not a youtuber (sic)"

It comes after Altrincham were forced to ban applicants from applying for the first team manager vacancy based on their 'Football Manager' achievements after their former gaffer Jim Harvey was sacked in December 2016.

Referring to 'Football Manager' and 'Championship Manager', the club tweeted at the time: "Please note, CV's for the vacant manager role must not be based on FM or CM achievements. (sic)"
