Nintendo Game Boy games can be played on the Apple Watch thanks to a new emulator.
iOS Developer Gabriel O'Flaherty-Chan has created the prototype for the wrist gadget which can play a library of the handheld console's titles.
The emulator, dubbed 'Giovanni' after the 'Pokemon' villain, is open source and available for developers to explore on GitHub, and is considered an impressive achievement given the limited nature of Apple Watch hardware and software.
O'Flaherty-Chan introduced the Digital Crown for up and down movements as the Apple Watch had limited input options.
Meanwhile, left and right movements are achieved by swiping on the screen, whilst A and B buttons can be pressed by tapping the screen.
In order to make the most use of the space on the screen, tiny Start and Select buttons were incorporated, thus proving that Game Boy games can be brought to the Apple Watch.
O'Flaherty-Chan hopes to revisit his emulator upon the release of watchOS 4 when better graphics are introduced.
