The 43-year-old star is to front CBS' new programme based around the mobile puzzle game which took the world by storm when it was first released in 2012.

Contestants will be split into teams of two and they must use their wits and physical agility to compete on enormous interactive "next-generation" game boards on which they must master 'Candy Crush', in which three candies or more must be lined up in a row.

Production on the programme began on Thursday (23.03.17) and it will premiere on July 9 and 'Extra' host Mario is thrilled to be involved as he loves playing 'Candy Crush' on his smartphone.

In a statement, he said: "As a player, I am excited to step into the real-life 'Candy Crush' arena.

Speaking about why Mario was chosen to front the show, executive producer Matt Kunitz said: "Mario Lopez is a perfect fit to host 'Candy Crush'. As a big fan of the game and a competitor by nature, his larger-than-life enthusiasm matches the size and scope of our show."
