Reports are claiming that Microsoft is moving ahead with plans to purchase Mojang.

According to The Wall Street Journal, "serious discussions" regarding an acquisition of the devoloper are underway with the firm.

With over $2 billion value, the deal "could be signed as early as this week", but Dina Bass from Bloomberg has claimed that if the deal does go through, Minecraft won't be made exclusive to the manufacturer's gaming platforms.

"Source tells us Minecraft would remain cross-platform if deal is done." she tweeted.

Minecraft is a game currently available on a whole host of platforms including PlayStation 3, iOS and Android devices as well as Xbox 360.

More recently it became available for next-gen consoles Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
