The upcoming action role-playing video game is being developed by Capcom and will mark the fifth title in the 'Monster Hunter' franchise, and in a press release this week the developers have confirmed the game will be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 26.

And the gaming giants also revealed "a PC release will follow at a later date," but gave no indication of when that would be.

'Monster Hunter: World' has the player take on the role of a hunter that travels around slaying beasts in battles across the terrain.

Players can also go on quests alone or with up to three other hunters in the new online drop-in multiplayer system allowing people to play between Japan and the west for the first time ever.

With the new online drop-in facility solo players can ask for assistance from the worldwide group during quests when they are struggling to fight against an opponent.

The concept of the game is for the players to improve their character's skills to become the ultimate hunter with loot collected from foes to be used to build new equipment and armour upgrades styled after the monsters they have killed.

'Monster Hunter: World' will also feature day to night transitions as the player travels across the map and the landscape and its inhabitants have been revealed to play a critical role in each quest.
