Game developed Capcom is said to be preparing to unveil a new release at the annual E3 event and according to the latest rumour surrounding the game, it will represent a "clean slate" for the franchise, taking it back to its horror routes.

The speculation has been fuelled by games expert Dr. Serkan Toto, who posted on Twitter: "1) About Resident Evil 7: Yes, it's in development. The entire game will go back to RE's horror roots and (essentially) be a clean slate.

"2) They will show it at E3. The RE7 team hired Jordan Amaro, a designer who previously worked on MGS V and P. T. at Kojima Productions. /end (sic)"

The PT demo was welcomed by gaming fans, who were looking forward to the launch of a big-budget survival horror video game.

Ultimately, however, the game was scrapped and fans were left waiting for the launch of another similar game.

Now it seems a new 'Resident Evil' could fill the void in the market, as it features the same kind of atmosphere and is less action-orientated than some of the more recent instalments in the franchise.

Although Capcom has refused to confirm or deny the rumours surrounding 'Resident Evil', the developer has previously confessed it is planning planning a more active E3 this year than was the case in 2015.

The company has admitted it has two major games to announce in the coming months, but has not yet revealed whether it will be doing so at E3, the annual video game conference and show in Los Angeles.

This year, the show is being staged between June 14 and June 16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
