The technology firm has revealed that moving forwards, creatures that are caught using illegal means "may not behave as expected".

In a Reddit post, Niantic said: "With the announcement of Raid Battles and the new battle features, we are staying true on our commitment to ensuring that 'Pokémon GO' continues to be a fun and fair experience for all Trainers."

Explaining the changes, the technology company revealed that players who are guilty of making unofficial manoeuvres risk being handed a serious penalty.

The post continued: "Pokémon caught using third-party services that circumvent normal gameplay will appear marked with a slash in the inventory and may not behave as expected."

Niantic said that its most-recent announcements forms part of the company's broader ambition of ensuring that the game and its competitors remains as fair as possible.

Niantic added: "This is one small part of our continued commitment to maintaining the integrity of our community and delivering an amazing Pokémon GO experience."

Despite this issue, 'Pokemon GO' has already proven to be hugely popular with gaming enthusiasts, having been downloaded more than 500 million times worldwide since its launch last year.
