Several sources have told Eurogamer have reported that it will be a handheld machine with its own display with detachable controllers bookended on either side, which can be attached or detached as required.

The report would certainly make sense in relation to the earlier buzz that the new console would support "physical media" in the shape of cartridges, making it the first Nintendo home console to do so since the N64 which was released in 1996.

The console will feature its own screen but can also be connected to a television, for larger scale viewing, via a base unit.

Chip manufacturer Macronix is manufacturing a new 32nm line of chips to be used with the NX.

According to the website, "Nintendo is not chasing graphical parity" with its competitors and that it will sacrifice power for portability with the relatively powerful Tegra processor from Nvidia, but standards such as 4K are unlikely.

The Japanese gaming giant is keeping the project shrouded in mystery, but they have teased that it will feature a "brand-new concept" and will be launched globally in March 2017.
