The technology firm has made the app available on iOS and Android - providing vital features like voice chat and game invites - however the only game supported by Nintendo Switch Online is currently 'Splatoon 2.'

The app is currently free, as Nintendo has decided to give fans of the console a taste of what they can expect by partially launching the app, with the full roll-out expected next year.. where it will cost gamers an annual fee of £18.

Nintendo has confirmed, too, that the app's first major feature will be linking to SplatNet 2, meaning gaming enthusiasts will be able to access a number of exciting features, such as allowing them to invite friends to matches.

Meanwhile, Nintendo revealed it is not planning to bring any of its games to PC.

The gaming giant said that whilst it has noticed an increase in the number of users of computers when it comes to gaming, it won't be making ports of its games for the systems as the firm believes the "integrated hardware-software business" is the way forward.

Speaking at the latest Annual General Meeting, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima said: "We are aware that many consumers play PC games.

"However, we believe that the integrated hardware-software business is the best way for us to provide the surprises and new gameplay experiences that we want to achieve."
