Jeff Kaplan, the creator of the popular multiplayer first person shooter, has reassured fans of the game that three new maps are "likely" to be released for the game later this year, giving a wider range of areas for players to conquer.

Since the game was released 11 months ago, 'Overwatch' has released two "standard" maps - which means they can be used in Quick Play and Competitive Play modes - and so releasing three more before the end of the year would be a jump in production.

Posting in a forum thread about the frequency of map releases, Jeff wrote: "We currently have 3 maps in development, all past the initial playtesting phase that are "standard" maps (QP/Comp). While something could always change, all 3 of those are looking likely for a release this year.

"We also have 3 non-standard maps in development (these won't go in QP/Comp). (sic)"

And the developer also hinted at some other exciting features coming to the game.

He teased: "We also have a few other experiments going on."

Jeff insists the team are doing everything they can to get the maps out quickly, as they too are desperate to play them alongside fans of the game.

He said: "Hopefully this will satisfy some of what you're looking for. We want to play on these maps as badly as you guys do. We'll work as fast as we can!"
