The developers told trainers this week that they will have the opportunity to catch more than 80 Pokemon that were originally discovered in the Johto region in the Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver video games - as well as Pokemon with gender-specific variations, and these will be rolled out in Pokemon GO.

In addition to the new creatures, developers have added some new features to make enhance gameplay.

Players will be able to evolve their Pokemon in more ways than ever - some Pokemon originally discovered in the Kanto region will soon be able to evolve into Pokemon that inhabit the Johto region and these can be transformed at PokeStops.

Pokemon will be programmed to react in different ways when they are spotted out in the wild. New item carousels will enable players to choose berries and Poke Balls directly from the encounter screen.

Meanwhile for Pokemon that enjoy eating berries there will be the chance to get two new berries - Nanab Berries (which slow down Pokemon making them easier to catch) and Pinap Berries (which doubles the amount of candy they receive if their next catch is successful) by spinning the Photo Disc at PokeStops.

In addition avatars can be dressed up in a number of new items of clothing including hats, shirts and pants.

Players are encouraged to use the hashtag #PokemonGO on Twitter to share their experiences with other players.
