According to game developers Capcom, the updated software will have 1080p visuals and a better frame rate of 60fps.

The popular action game will still feature the 'DLC: the Lost in Nightmares' and 'Desperate Escape' story expansions, more figures, four costumes to choose from as well as the No Mercy mode and 'The Mercenaries United' function.

Meanwhile, according to a listing on Xbox.com the new game can be pre-loaded now at the cost of £15.99.

The news comes after speculation fuelled by games expert Dr. Serkan Toto about a new 'Resident Evil' game being in development, which will be a "clean slate" for the brand.

Toto posted on Twitter recently: "1) About Resident Evil 7: Yes, it's in development. The entire game will go back to RE's horror roots and (essentially) be a clean slate.

"2) They will show it at E3. The RE7 team hired Jordan Amaro, a designer who previously worked on MGS V and P. T. at Kojima Productions. /end (sic)"

Although Capcom has refused to confirm or deny the rumours surrounding 'Resident Evil', the developer has previously confessed it is planning a more active E3 this year than was the case in 2015.

The company has admitted it has two major games to announce in the coming months, but has not yet revealed whether it will be doing so at E3, the annual video game conference and show in Los Angeles.

This year, the show is being staged between June 14 and June 16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
