Sega has announced the launch of Sega Forever, a collection of the company's most loved retro titles that are available to play for free on iOS and Android.

To kick off the collection, a batch of Mega Drive games are being released including 'Sonic the Hedgehog', 'Altered Beast', 'Phantasy Star 2', 'Kid Chameleon' and 'Comix Zone'.

But fans that have played these titles should not fear, as according to reports by Engadet, Sega will add new titles to the service each fortnight - in the hope that it will appeal to the wider generations and different consoles.

But in order to enable gamers to play them for free, there will be advertisements - but those wishing to have interrupted gameplay can do so by paying $2 (£1.60).

Mike Evans, Sega's chief marketing officer and development lead on Sega Forever, said there are big plans for the future.

He told The Verge: "We could take it to Xbox Live Arcade or PSN as well. The content is evergreen in that sense. Mobile is a great place to start because the platform is ubiquitous.

The service will launch this Friday (23.06.17) and will be available on Google Play or the App Store.
