Independent developer Goto80 is set to release a new game for the iconic franchise, a pseudo-3D platformer that features a spherical maze challenge that leads through to the next levels.

The game has a distinctly retro feel and the cartridge comes with a box and a manual.

'Miniplanets' is sure to appeal to lovers of retro games and is scheduled for release next year.

The announcement of the launch comes shortly after it was revealed that 'Streets of Rage' and 'Altered Beast' - two classic Sega games - are being made into movies.

The iconic titles are being lined up by Stories International - the production arm of Sega Group - and Hakuhodo DY Group, with Stories International set to team up with 'Fear the Walking Dead' producers Circle of Confusion on the adaptations.

Lawrence Mattis, Circle of Confusion partner, said: "These are some of the most well-loved Sega games, and we're thrilled to be working with Stories to adapt them into major film and television franchises."

Stories International and Circle of Confusion intend to hire "major studios, producers, and filmmakers" to co-develop the film adaptations.
