Yacht Club Games has announced that the action adventure game will move over to the console when the port launches this year but the retro-style platform will have a new name, plus a long-requested feature.

The complete 'Shovel Knight' saga will switch its name to 'Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove' and will feature 'Plague of Shadows' and the upcoming 'Specter of Torment' in a complete package.

Owners of the game on PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One will automatically receive the 'Treasure Trove' collection in their libraries and access future updates of the game for free.

The original 'Shovel Knight' release will be given a price rise and renamed 'Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope'.

The developers have not said how much it or the standalone expansion campaigns will cost but it said the game had.

They said: "Simply gotten too big! It's difficult for many players out there to find everything or even know that these campaigns exist. We believe that providing standalone versions will provide better entry points for different types of players and allow more people to continue enjoying each adventure on their next favourite platform."

Several new features will be free for all owners on console, including a two-player local cooperative mode, available across other platforms except Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita.

This mode used to be available to anyone who owned Wii U and the 'Shovel Knight' amiibo, but after an update the game will be available to everyone.

In addition there is a body swap mode in the works, which switches up depending on who's wearing which suit of armour. Further updates including a four-player battle mode is heading to consoles later in the year, along with a new campaign entered on 'King Knight'.

The game celebrates its third anniversary this June and a new original game is in the pipeline.
