The technology giant has revealed its patch 5.01, which is now available for all PlayStation owners to download - although the changes aren't as wide-ranging as previous updates.

In fact, the update seems to centre on improvements made to previously-revealed features, rather than totally original ideas.

But as it is worth just 374MB of space, the update ought to be easy enough to download.

By contrast, Sony's 5.0 patch made some notable changes and added some significant features, including allowing PS4 Pro users to stream in 1080p and 60FPS, while the PS4 Friends List was also updated with greater management tools.

The latest update comes shortly after it was announced that PlayStation boss Andrew House is set to leave Sony at the end of 2017.

House took control of the iconic brand in 2011, and has since helped to restore the PlayStation name to the top of its field, overseeing a number of key developments en route.

In a statement, House explained: "I'm tremendously proud of what we've built with PlayStation and Sony Interactive Entertainment: entertaining millions globally with the best in games and creating a fully fledged digital entertainment company.

"PlayStation has been a huge part of my life for more than 20 years but with the business having achieved record-breaking success, now seemed to be the right time for me to pursue new challenges."
