Star Wars Battlefront has been available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC for just over a couple of weeks now, and the game is certainly something to behold. Gorgeous graphics define beautiful locations and intriguing characters - it wouldn't be difficult to call this the year's best-looking gaming title. If developer DICE were looking to truly reinvigorate the original Battlefront game, they've more than done their job.

Combining that with the in-game sound which reveals just how much DICE have paid attention to detail, and you're left with one hell of an audiovisual experience. You could be watching one of the original trilogy movies with Battlefront.

Of course, when it comes to reviewing a game, it's not all about the looks and sounds, but the content within.

Most noticeably absent from Star Wars Battlefront is a single player campaign or 'Story Mode', and this is really where the game lets itself down. Replayability and longevity here is crushed, because there's simply nothing to work your way through and plough hours into, knowing that you'll come out with some sort of emotional ending. Because of this, the attachment you have not only to your character but the amount of times you die and such isn't present, unless you're a stickler for a great kill/death ratio.

A solo or two-player cooperative experience is available though through Survival, where wave-based missions pit Rebels against Imperials who gradually become more difficult to overcome. Unfortunately, once complete the Survival missions don't have much going for them or to entice you to returning and play once more.

Putting that aside, the multiplayer content is spot-on in many ways. The objective-focused modes are some of the most exciting - such as Walker Assault and Supremacy - with awe-inspiring events to ensure you're on your toes every second of the way. The pace of any game can change at any one moment and unlike other shooter games of this kind, you should be encouraged to really interact with your team and get tactical.

Those new to the game should definitely head to the tutorials before diving in, especially for the games which involve the driveable vehicles. Want to jump into an X-wing? Go right ahead, but make sure you don't let the team down!

Powerups in the form of pickup items which are randomly spawned are another exciting addition, with some spawning you as one of six available hero characters with incredible power. Though I've not been lucky enough just yet to step into the mantle of Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker, it's incredibly good fun even just watching those who do get lucky enough in action.

Already widely reported, the Walker Assault mode is so out of balance that you've got to go into it thinking you're going to lose if you're on the side of the Rebels. That way, when you do manage to destroy the AT-ATs marching towards their goal, it feels like a huge accomplishment.

As a fan of Star Wars, I can say that Battlefront is beyond a shadow of a doubt worth my time, and worth the time of those who have fallen in love with the franchise over the years. For those new to the series, it might be worth holding off on making a purchase until you've delved a little bit more into the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars Battlefront is out now, with free DLC The Battle of Jakku available from December 8, or available now to those who pre-ordered.
