The popular farming video game will head to the PS4 on December 13 in North America, while it will launch one day later on the console in Europe on December 14, the same date the title will be released globally for the Xbox One.

Eric Barone, the game's creator, made the announcement but also revealed the game will not be coming to the Wii U anytime soon, and the developers are instead concentrating on bringing the title to the forthcoming Nintendo Switch console.

A statement on the game's website read: "Looking at Wii U and the current gaming landscape, we made the difficult choice to shift our development efforts to creating a version for Nintendo Switch.

"I am really looking forward to the Switch, and I believe that the Switch's unique capabilities could create some exciting opportunities for Stardew Valley.

"I do want to emphasize that I am absolutely committed to seeing Stardew Valley on Nintendo platforms, and I really do appreciate your support and understanding in this."

'Stardew Valley' was initially released on PC in February 2016 and sees players put in charge of running a small farm which involves growing crops and raising livestock.

The hotly-anticipated Switch is set to drop in March 2017.
