Batman: A Telltale Game Series will be showcasing a new and upgraded version of the engine currently used for all of the games from the studios back catalogue.

Speaking at the SXSW panel, Telltale co-founder Kevin Bruner commented: "We've got a whole lot of new technology that's going in that you'll start to see in Batman, and Telltale games going forward [...] We have a bunch of new engineers that have been working on rendering technology - non-photorealistic rendering technology [...] but it's really cool, very much upgraded from the kinds of things that you've seen from Telltale in the past.

"It's still a Telltale game, so it'll be evolved from what you've seen before, but I think a more significant step than you've seen from any of our products in the past."

The panel also saw the first details about the game divulged, with the story focusing on both Bruce Wayne and Batman, and the player of course tasked with decisions that will shape the city and villains around Bruce and Batman respectively.

A blog post on Telltale's website reads: "Each night, Bruce Wayne chooses to change Gotham for the better. The team wants to explore what the consequences are of the player's actions when decisions made as Bruce have a critical impact on his nightly crusade as Batman, and vice versa. Certain key situations will give the player the decision to approach a scene as Bruce or Batman with consequences for both sides."

Currently keeping their villain roster underwraps, Telltale have said secondary characters such as James Gordon, Alfred, Renee Montoya and Vicki Vale will be included in the series, with all characters affected by player choices.

As a new story unconnected to any that already exist within the Batman franchise, fans and gamers will be able to get their hands on the first episode of the Telltale game this coming summer.
