The popular 3D puzzle video game was released in 2016 by Thekla Inc. for PlayStation 4, Xbox, PC, and iOS systems, but it has now been announced the game won't be getting a port for the new Nintendo hybrid console.

Creator Jonathan Blow revealed the news when a fan asked about a port on Twitter, as he replied: "We are not working on such a port at this time."

The statement doesn't rule out a version for the Switch completely, but it is unlikely the console will be getting the game any time soon.

'The Witness' sees the player take control of an unnamed character who is exploring an island with numerous structures and natural formations. The island is roughly divided into eleven sections, arranged around a mountain that represents the ultimate goal for the player. Within each section is a gold box that must be reached to activate it, requiring the player to complete a sequence of puzzles within that section to reach it.

Meanwhile, the puzzle game isn't the only one to have been denied a Switch port recently, as Sledgehammer Games senior creative director Bret Robbins recently revealed the upcoming 'Call of Duty: World War II' game will not be available on the console.

The decision to skip the Switch puts 'WWII' on a long list of 'Call of Duty' games that have failed to make it to Nintendo consoles, with 2013's 'Call of Duty: Ghosts' being the last game to get a port on a Nintendo system when it was released for the Wii U.

Bret made the confession during E3 earlier this month, where the developers released the first multiplayer trailer for the game, which opens for beta testing in the summer.
