Ensure a good night's sleep with these tips

Mobile phones and smart devices are being blamed for a lack of sleep across the nation, and as we struggle to switch off we have some helpful tips to get you off to sleep easier.

Most of us will experience a sleep issue at some point in our lives – often when we’re feeling worried or stressed. These disturbances can last a few days, or in some cases can be a prolonged condition that interferes with quality of life, relationships and work.

A recent study by Crampex revealed that just 1 in 10 of us is getting our recommended eight hours.

To help you get the sleep you dream of here’s our top five recommendations. We’d love to know which work for you.

Bonuit Sleep Aid

All natural Bonuit® Sleep Aid promotes healthy sleep and relieves anxiety, without the association of a wide-range of side effects. Plants have a long history of use to help reduce anxiety and encourage sleep independently.

Bonuit® Sleep Aid combines two key ingredients: Valerian (Valerinan officinalis) and high strength Passion Flower herb extract (Passiflora incarnataL.)  Valerian (Valeriana officinalis L.) is known for its positive effect on sleep structure, helping achieve deeper levels of slow wave sleep. Passion Flower has traditionally been used for its benefits in reducing symptoms of stress, such as mild anxiety which can hinder the initial act of falling asleep!

Always read the label. Available from Holland & Barrett and online at www.bonuit.co.uk from £9.99 for 30 tablets.

Bio-Oil

One of Bio-Oil’s key ingredients is lavender making it the perfect sleep-inducing addition to a relaxing bath before bed. This unique oil also combines vitamin A and E with natural plant oils including Calendula, Rosemary and Chamomile which will keep your skin smooth too.

Eau Thermale Avene Water Spray

One of key factors that can stop you sleeping is being too hot. Keep cool with Eau Thermale Avene Water Spray. This refreshing water spray is the perfect product to keep you cool and calm and help you drift back off to sleep.

Available in Boots for £6.50 for 150ml.

Top tip from sleep expert Dr Neil Stanley

Dr Neil Stanley says, “Anxiety is probably the most common modern day disturber of sleep. Essentially in order to be able to fall asleep you need to have a quiet mind - thoughts and worries running through your mind will stop you sleeping”.

He recommends, “Anything that quietens the mind before bed will help you fall asleep. Techniques can include making sure you have a 30-45 minute wind down each night before bed, do something quiet and relaxing; no working in the last hour before bed; turn the TV/Computer off and hour before bed; have a pen and paper beside your bed ton write down your worries; as your granny said don’t go to bed angry and don’t worry about falling asleep, the harder you try to fall asleep the less likely you are to do so”.
