Obese women are more likely to die young

Obese women are more likely to die young, so we urge you to adopt a more healthy and active lifestyle.

New research, which was published online in the British Medical Journal, determined that obesity is a major risk factor for death among obese women who don't smoke.

The study involved more than 3,600 women aged 45 to 64 in Scotland who never smoked and were followed for 28 years.

During that time, half the women died, including 916 from cardiovascular disease - those who were severely obese had the highesst death rates.

These findings do not surprise Dr Dian Griesel, she says: "For every extra pound of body fat, miles of capillaries are created. Multiply this by the 20,plus pounds of deadly and unnecessary body fat many women carry, and you have created an immense strain on the heart and its ability to function for a long time."

Over time, she explains, excess body fat taxes all of a person's natural bodily functions. "Ultimately, one or more chronic diseases are triggered. Then, as women take multiple medications that must be processed by the body - even as the core tissue, obesity, remains unaddressed - you have established the foundation for premature death."
