Mayfair Pizza Co. is offering marathon runners complimentary pre-race meals.

With thousands of runners carrying out their last minute training preparations for the London Marathon the Mayfair Pizza Co. are offering them a little light relief with a complimentary carb-loading feast.

Before the big event on April 13th the Mayfair based restaurant will open it's doors, free of charge, to any runner with a marathon number and feisty appetite.

We spoke to James Robson, Director of the Mayfair Pizza Co. and experience marathon runner, about the deal and his experience of crossing the finish line.

Most people wouldn't expect pizza to be part of a training diet, tells us about the deal?

'Nonsense, they are perfect! Carbs with the main base, some limited protein and a treat such as cheese. You burn so many calories training that the cheese has no effect and the ratio to carbs and protein is just what you need.'

What inspired you to support the runners in this way and start the deal?

'I love the running community, they know how to have fun but equally have a healthy outlook on life.'

What got you into marathon running and endurance sport?

'Owning bars and restaurants you tend to eat out too much and drink a little more than the average person. Running a few marathons a year counteracts this perfectly and it is such a good way to see other cities.'

What has been your toughest challenge yet?

'Running the 100K Race to the Stones on one of the hottest days of the year last summer. Made Marathon des Sables seem easier.'

What does your diet consist of when you're training?

'Great food and drink. That’s the whole point.'

What advice would you offer to first time marathon runners?

'Try to run the first half 5 to 10% slower than you want to, will make the second half so much easier and your overall time will be quicker.'

James has run 25 marathons in the past two years.

James's trophy cabinet is overflowing; he has completed 25 marathons around the world since 2012 in London, California and Tokyo to name a few. He has also ventured into the world of Ultra Marathons, completing the grueling Marathon des Sables, a race of six marathons through the Sahara desert. The Director of Mayfair Pizza Co. has raised over £30,000 for charity with his heroic efforts.

James won't be able to line up on the start line of London's 34th marathon this weekend due to injury, but will be offering his fellow runners the nutrition they need to successfully complete the event all week.

Treat yourself and your hard worked body to a complimentary pre-race carb load and receive a side order of motivation from James. Tweet him for your own slice of marathon advice @LancashireCourt.
