A workout class may be the answer for you

A workout class may be the answer for you

Working out can be boring but it doesn't need to be. The trick to getting fit, other than being active, is to find an activity that you enjoy doing and to keep doing it until it becomes part of your routine.

They say it takes 21 days for something to become a habit. Well, it's exactly 21 days until the New Year so what better time to start than now?!

Whilst everybody else is planning on starting their resolution then, yours will already have become a habit. So, when the new year arrives, all you have to do is continue with the good work. Perfect!

Here are some fun ideas to help get you started.

1) Use Accessories

Incorporating accessories into your workout can revitalise it and make it fun. Hula hooping, tennis, spinning, and Pilates balls are all great ways to shake up your workout. Plus, the good thing about these accessories is that they lend themselves to different levels of difficulty. This means that as you become fitter and more used to the exercises, you can increase their difficulty with just a minor adjustment of the accessories. Perfect!

My favourite workout accessory at the moment is POWERSPIN. It's quite a new apparatus but is great for working out your arms and battling those bingo wings. When using them with my clients, we perform our own exercises but what's great about the POWERSPIN is that they can take them home to do their 'homework' using the DVD it comes with. Plus, each workout is approx. 6mins long making it perfect for people with busy schedules. (P.S. Don't be fooled… it might seem short but that 'short' 6 min workout will leave you feeling like you've lifted bricks for hours.) You can buy them at www.powerspin.com

2) Join A Dance-Cardio Class

For people who love dancing but want the benefits of an aerobics class, dance-cardio is the perfect solution. It's a new workout that combines different high-energy forms of dancing with a high/medium impact workout. It's great for fat burning and will tone you up in no time.

3) Join a Zumba Class

Zumba is fantastic for toning, body sculpting and fat burning. Consequently, it has attracted celebrity fans such as Michelle Obama, Madonna and Jennifer Lopez. Jennifer recently told Shape magazine ' As women, we tend to give away a lot. We take care of a lot of people, and we can't forget to take care of ourselves. If that means once a week you're going to go off without the kids or without anybody and just go shoe shopping - well, that's me, because I love shoes - or get a facial even if your sister thinks your selfish, or join a Zumba class, or take a painting class or whatever, you've just got to do it.' If this sounds like you, then joining a Zumba class will not only get you fitter and more toned, but it's a great excuse for you to get some 'me time' or have a giggle with friends. What more could you want?!

4) Learn To Pole Dance

Pole dancing is brilliant for the abs, stomach muscles and provides a great workout for the whole body too. There are lots of different positions you can do and learning a new skill is always fun. There are lots of classes available nationally so this is a great thing to try for a girly get together, hen party or to give you a confidence boost and meet new people.

5) Start Belly Dancing

This is so much fun and provides a fantastic workout, especially for your back,

stomach and abs. The movements may not be high-impact but the variety of movements will tone you up quicker than anything. The muscle isolation from shifting your torso from side to side will give you a fantastically synched in waist too and the breathing required to work with the exercises will leave you feeling clam and relaxed. It's a great alternative if you fancy a more upbeat version of yoga or Pilates. Go on - give it a try!

Have fun!
