Jade Goody's death inspired thousands of women to be checked for cervical cancer

Today marks the four year anniversary of when Jade Goody lost her very public battle with cervical cancer.

Every year over 3,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer whilst 300,000 women are told they have a cervical abnormality that may require treatment.

Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust are marking the anniversary with the 2013 launch of Walk for Fun.

Walk for Fun aims to recognise and celebrate women everywhere who have been affected by both cervical cancer and cervical abnormalities as well as celebrate the memory of those we have lost.

Jade’s legacy resulted in an extra 400,000 women taking up their invite for cervical screening but unfortunately these numbers are back on the decline.

Cervical cancer is largely preventable and awareness of the importance of prevention through the Cervical Screening and HPV Vaccination Programmes is vital. Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust’s Walk for Fun is a 5K sponsored walk which aims to raise awareness of the disease.

For 2013 and to mark Cervical Screening Awareness Week (June 9-15) there will be walks on Saturday 15th June in Ayrshire, Bristol, Edinburgh, Exeter, Gateshead, Leeds, Manchester, Peterborough and Southampton.

Then on Saturday 22nd June our final walk takes place in Hyde Park, London. Entry is only £5 and we ask participants to raise £50 to help the charity continue its vital work. Register online at www.jostrust.org.uk/walkforfun or call 020 7936 7498.
