Kim Kardashian used the Atkins diet to lose her post-pregnancy weight.

The 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians' star has snapped back into shape since giving birth to her daughter North West in June and praised the popular celebrity diet - which consists of a low carbohydrate intake - as her secret to shifting the extra weight in a message to her fans on Twitter on Sunday (13.10.13).

In response to a fan's query as to how she "lost so much weight", Kim replied: "I've actually been doing the Atkins diet & luv it. (sic)"

The diet, popularized by the 2002 book, 'Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution' involves cutting out processed foods and carbohydrates, and the strict eating plan has been a long-time favourite for Kim.

Jennifer Livingston, a spokeswoman for Atkins Nutritionals told New York Daily News newspaper: "After she delivered her baby on June 15, she wanted an effective and balance way to lose the baby weight. She'd done Atkins before and knew it worked."

The 32-year-old beauty reportedly skipped the initial carbohydrate ban and joined during stage two of the diet - where grains such as brown rice and whole wheat pasta are introduced - to make sure her body was fit for breastfeeding her newborn.

The spokeswoman continued: "Being a new nursing mother, she needed adequate calories to be healthy for her child and keep up her milk production."

"It's a very balanced way for her to loose the baby weight while continuing to properly care for her daughter."

Kim's boyfriend, rapper Kanye West has also been helping her shift the pounds as he attended an exercise Bootcamp class with her last Friday. (11.10.13)
