Baked beans

Baked beans

We take a look at baked beans as a super food

Let's start with the fact that they are 99% fat free, so they're great to eat whilst trying to lose weight as the fibre in them helps to keep you fuller for longer too.

The fibre also moves through the digestive tract and is processde by friendly bacteria in the the intestines. This process produces chains of fatty acids which protect the colon and intestine walls to protect against damage and even cancer in later life.

The humble baked bean is also packed with iron, calcium and protein. It contains carbohydrate that, like that in apples, is of the low GI variety.

The final health punch comes from them being covered in tomato sauce - this is another powerful antioxidant shown to help prevent heart disease and prostate cancer.
