Despite his doubts about whether or not it’s a wise move, Tony soon realises that nothing he can do will change Rachel’s mind about her decision to go back to work; to help her move on she is determined to visit Reverend Hall to talk things through.
Having been left to mull things over, Tony soon refocuses his attentions elsewhere. While Rachel’s friends continue to prove a major source of strength for her, there's one in particular whom he can’t help but eye with suspicion: Roman.
It seems that the newcomer’s excess of friendly concern for the good doctor fails to meet with Tony’s approval, and he’s only too quick to ensure that the imposter keeps his distance. ‘She’s just not in a good place right now,’ he explains, warning that Rachel’s calm reaction to recent events is nothing more than a front.
Unfortunately for Tony, Rachel returns from her visit from Hall ready for another round of flirting with Roman – who, having managed to sweet-talk Irene, announces his intentions to stick around in the Bay.
Breaking free
Rachel having taken the opportunity to tell Hall that which he so desperately needed to hear, Geoff is desperate to follow in her footsteps by telling him that he too forgives him; he can’t bear the thought of the Reverend going into surgery thinking that nobody cares about what happens to him.
Geoff’s pleading eventually pays off, and before long he is face to face with the man once so respected by the community. A shell of his former self, Hall is delighted to see him and, having expressed his deep regret for all that’s passed, asks his visitor to unbind him so that they can pray together.
