Gardens are playing an huge role when it comes to buying a house with a whopping 88% revealing they would rethink buying a property if the outside space wasn't quite right.

A new survey by George Home found that 52% of those surveyed now used their garden as an extra room and try to make the most out of the extra space that a garden provides.

A quarter of green-fingered Brits are taking more pride in their gardens than ever before and now spend just as much time and money decorating and furnishing it as they would on their interior, even during the winter.

The nation has taken inspiration from home improvement shows such as Grand Designs and Kirstie's Homemade Home, with almost a quarter of people (22%) revealing their revamped gardens have increased the value of their properties.

Despite the unpredictable British weather already witnessed this spring, the al fresco European dining trend is at an all time high, with 37% of people saying they eat or drink in their gardens as often as they can. A third would rather enjoy an evening meal in the comfort of their own garden, than eating out at a restaurant.

93% of us use our garden come rain or shine, with two thirds using it everyday. Almost half (48%) of us now spend at least two to five hours a week in our outdoor space, which is the equivalent of up to 260 hours a year.

George has reported a steady increase in sales of outdoor furniture and accessories over the last year with sales up 200% YOY.
