If you've just moved into a new home, chances are, the garden is one of three things- A barren stretch of land, Overgrown and in meed of TLC or just plain boring!
Whichever on these things it is, Planning a new garden can be lots of fun!

However, if its your first garden, you might be feeling a little owerwhelmed by the task of having to start from scratch with this garden. Fret not! Female first has compiled a list of things to help, so you'll have that dream garden before you know it!

b>What will it be used for?
This is probarbly the most important thing and yet something which lots of people, especially young families leave out.
If you want a spohisticated, impressive space to entertain in, you'll be wanting a little note than a patch of lawn and a few hardy annuals, however if you've got a young family who will use the space, you may need to leave the ornamental ponds, expensive garden sculptures and delicate plants for someone else

How does your garden grow?
Its true that many Eager gardners hit the garden centres in early spring and begin planting in earnest, however, most of these gardens will be doomed to failure, because with the best intentioon in the world, many would be gardners forget to check the quality of the light and soil in their outdoor space. These are important things if you want that space to flourish.

Laying the groundworks
Before you can even begin planning, you'll need to determine what kind of soil you have there. Most types of soil can be fixed so that pretty much any plant will grow there. For the heaviest soil, consider working with raised beds, that way, you can add a good amount of great topsoil to really get those plants started.

Don't fight
Most problems in a garden can be overcome, but the only way to really controll the environment is to bring it all indoors. This is never possible and defeats the object of having a garden. This is where a bit of research is nescessary, look what plants like what light and what soil. Don't forget moisture.
Other than that, the only thing to remember is that it takes time. Heed what we say and do a little reasearch for yourself, and you'll have a flourishing expert looking garden before you know it
