Vastu Shastra: the Indian feng shui?

Vastu Shastra – literally the science of architecture – states that the world is made up of five elements: earth, water, air, fire, and space.  Designing buildings to balance these natural energies can, according to Vastu Shastra, create harmony in our lives.

There can be no denying that a poorly designed, cluttered house can have an effect on mood, so perhaps there is something in this ancient Indian doctrine.  If you think it’s for you, you may have a lot of rebuilding to do.

Vastu Shastra differs from feng shui in that the Indian belief is concerned with the structure of a house, whereas feng shui dictates how rooms and houses should be laid out.  For example, the north is ruled by wealth, so this is where the main door should be, and where all business transactions should be carried out.
