Home and Garden on Female First

As much as we all enjoy a clean and tidy home, it’s no secret that there are countless more exciting things to do than cleaning! If a live-in cleaner isn’t a realistic option (we wish!) then there are a few chores that we should carry out daily to prevent a grimy home!

Kitchen counters

You put everything on top of your kitchen counter, from your keys to your bag which is pretty unhygienic when you consider this is where you prepare your food as well. The dirt can build up here quickly and you should use a disinfectant to keep it clean wiping down before and after cooking.

Floors

It is not essential to vacuum or mop your floors everyday, but do make sure you sweep the kitchen floor to get rid of crumbs and any food that might have been dropped. Additionally, if you spill something or make a mess in any other room, be sure to clean it up and don’t let it build up. Otherwise you are just leaving a mess which may attract unwanted guests…

Kitchen and bathroom sinks

This is the place where you wash your dirty dishes and hands, and when you do so you are leaving behind bacteria. There is nothing less appealing than being greeted by blobs of toothpaste when you want to wash your face before bed. Likewise, your kitchen sees a lot of activity so rinse away plates and chunks of food every time you want to use the sink.

Dirty kitchen dishes

This may seem like an obvious thing to do, but we’ve all been sat on the sofa full and tired from the day simply wanting to sit back and relax. At that time, nothing will seem less appealing than the thought of a large pile of washing up but you really ought to keep on top of it because dirty dishes attract pests and bugs.

Shower

Lightly scrubbing your shower and any tiles surrounding it every day, stops the build-up of lime scale and gets rid of all the bacteria you have just washed off. There are a variety of every day shower sprays that make this easy to do and we’d recommend investing in a shower squeegee.

Bed

Making your bed will add to the cleanliness of your home and there is nothing better to come back to than a tidy house after a long day at work. Although this seems unnecessary to some, a tidy room with a made bed looks so much more inviting to come home to after a busy day!

Your bag

Not the inside of your bag, but the bottom of it. Think about it. You place your bag on the floor in restaurants, at work and even on public transport. Then when you are at home, you place it on counter tops and tables. Imagine the germs you are bringing back home and spreading… It’s not a pleasant thought! If it's faux leather bag, then use dry foam to clean it, but if it’s leather, then it's better to apply special oil-based cleaners. Never use baby wipes, as they may damage the finish of the bag.

Finally, if you really want to keep on top of home cleanliness, we’d recommend a one off clean or a regular cleaning service from Fantastic Services. A one off clean is an intense cleaning service you can book on an ad hoc basis that includes an oven and fridge clean, descaling of sinks and wall spot cleaning – prices start from £14 an hour. While a regular clean can be booked on a daily, weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis, with prices starting from £12 an hour.
