Confessions of a beauty addict: Shocking stats that might just sound familiar to you!

Make up is an important ritual for most women. Many like to use it as an expression of themselves or how they are feeling, and others like to use it as a mask to hide their insecurities, whether they are physical or emotional.

New research has confirmed that a third of British women admit that they would never leave the house without their trusty beauty routine and one in five claim that applying their makeup is the most important part of their day.

65% of British women feel that they are judged moreso by other women than men.

The survey, commissioned by retailer QVC to celebrate their July Beauty Month, asked over 2000 women and found that on average, women think about how they look nine times a day.

A staggering 4% of women even think about it every half an hour.

Such information is food for thought when considering the hold and importance that beauty products and appearance has come to mean to women in the 21st Century.

Incredibly, a third of women admit that their beauty regime is the last thing on their mind before going to sleep, ahead of thinking about our loved ones. 16% of ladies say that it is the first thing that they think about in the morning.

Women feel that attending a job interview is the most stressful situation to demonstrate flawless makeup, followed by nights out and dates. 31% also admit that they feel a greater pressure to look better in the presence of other women as opposed to trying to impress a man.

This is quite possible when we consider that 65% of British women feel that they are judged moreso by other women than men.

We all like to freshen up our makeup throughout the day with a cheeky scout at the compact or a little trip to the powder room, however 23% of women admitted to reapplying their makeup every two or three hours!

Information has even surfaced to suggest that we adopt our main beauty regimes from our own mothers. We watched them apply their makeup in a certain way and use certain products and now we're carrying on the tradition - proving that we're more like our mum than some would like to believe!

One thing is undeniable; for one reason or another, British ladies love their makeup and so what better reason to spoil and pamper yourself with some little treats this month?
